DESCRIPTION
The key to any photo image glass splashback is to ensure that it belongs in the space. This kitchen has a large lounge area facing it, behind that lounge is an enormous glass wall. Outside of that wall is a Zen garden. I chose the tranquility of that garden as the element that I wanted for my client. I wanted her to have a warm and soft environment within a much bigger environment. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to visit Tokyo are aware that the Japanese can create harmony within small spaces that exist within the bustle of an enormous city.

Signature Script art

DESCRIPTION
Focusing on the "Script" as opposed to each "letter' or "Word" can provide us with a contemporary approach without the short term life span that "current fads" have. If the script is applied in a fashion which presents fluidity and balance, plus whilst easily recognised as script it is made difficult if not impossible to actually read, then we have achieved the desired outcome, which is essentially longevity.

DESCRIPTION
By bringing the glass to the front of the bench we have been able to make the kitchen appear significantly more dominant that it otherwise would be. Also by not employing a colour which does not already appear in the kitchen we have avoided the shortness of life usually associated with trends in colours. No design nor kitchen can last forever, the very best we can aim for is to have the kitchen in conjunction with the splashback belong together, as all things age, let us at least do so gracefully.

DESCRIPTION
This design is in a home in Pegasus just north of Christchurch. I chose this design because the view to the left of this kitchen is over the wetlands. The colour tones were chosen as people who are familiar with this area know that the morning tones are bronze and their is a calmness that the mornings bring. I want to give reason to image selection and although some might argue that it is like sending coal to New Castle. I believe that their are times that the home needs to be anchored to its environment. Which was the case here.

Reflex Mirror finishing

DESCRIPTION
In this installation we wanted the kitchen to claim the space but deliver it in a way which would see tones harmonise across the entire kitchen. The result was to have the kitchen span across the room, thus giving it presence. Our client wanted to use script, so we employed the script in a way which also allowed the script to settle in the space as opposed to jumping off the page. To achieve that result we avoided using colours or tones that were not already in the kitchen. The only additional element was mirror finishing which we used in the splashback on the left and also the script on the front bench was produced in mirror to allow the colours of the flooring to appear as a reflection.

This design was chosen as the very contemporary home fronted to a private lakefront and the owner wanted to reflect the external environment back into the house.

This was a really bold bold move.
The surrounding colours were full tone , double tone, half tone, quarter tone blah blah blah.
Their was this huge internal scream yelling ENOUGH ALREADY!
And then a moment. And from out of the depths of Christchurches reserved austere but safe tone on tones.
A meow, then a roar, and "OUT OF AFRICA" was borne and IN YOUR FACE.

DESCRIPTION
What we are demonstrating here are largely one off pieces that we generically refer to as Signature Art Glass.

To us this means putting an individuals sense of style or taste and imposing that style on the architecture. This effectively defines its individuality hence ones personal signature.

More often than not I would be more tempted to adopt an Architectural Art Glass approach, in that instance we working in harmony with the architecture as opposed to conflicting.

Due to commercial sensitivity we have elected not to demonstrate these, which is unfortunate but necessary.

We do however have a number of examples at our Christchurch Glass studio situated at UNIT 5-26 Parkhouse Road, and you are most welcome to visit..
